Bleeding: During and after hydrocele surgery, bleeding into the scrotum may occur. To prevent the formation of blood clots, the surgeon places a drain in the scrotum during the procedure. Blood clots usually dissolve spontaneously within a month. In cases of infection or a larger hematoma, surgical removal of the clots may be necessary.
Infection: In surgeries involving the genital area, it is not always possible to ensure complete sterility. As a result, inflammation of the scrotal tissues may occur. If blood clots accumulate in the scrotum, the risk of infection increases. V primeru povišane telesne temperature, mrzlice in slabega počutja je potreben takojšen posvet z urologom operaterjem!
A few days before the surgery, you need to stop taking medications that increase the risk of bleeding, such as: MARIVARIN, MAREVAN, SINTROM, apixaban (ELIQUIS), dabigatran (PRADAXA), or rivaroxaban (XARELTO).
Before the procedure, a preoperative assessment at the antithrombotic clinic is MANDATORY.
Bring a written INR report showing a value of 1.3 or lower, issued no more than one or two days before the procedure.
Patients taking PLAVIX can discontinue therapy only with the approval of a cardiologist or neurologist. If discontinuation is not possible, we will try to adjust the surgery date.
Aspirin 100 Protect does not necessarily need to be stopped before the procedure, but it is recommended to avoid taking it for at least seven days prior to surgery.
Arrange transportation home, as you will not be able to drive yourself and excessive physical activity would increase the risk of postoperative bleeding. We advise against heavy physical activity for 4-6 weeks after surgery.
After the surgery, you will be transferred to the recovery room, where you will remain under observation until the effects of the chosen anesthesia wear off. You will receive pain relief medication. In most cases, you will stay in the hospital overnight and be discharged the following day. Pain is usually mild and typically subsides completely within 10 to 14 days. Upon discharge, you will be prescribed medication to help manage any discomfort.
Hydrocele surgery usually relieves symptoms immediately. After the procedure, swelling of the scrotum can be expected to persist for at least 4 weeks.
