About the assessment

Diabetes often damages the nerve fibres in the legs and arms, a condition known as diabetic neuropathy. It is one of the most common complications of diabetes and one of those with the greatest impact on quality of life. Its best-known consequence is burning pain, but neuropathy can also cause balance problems, impaired digestion, difficulty passing urine and erectile dysfunction, and it is indirectly linked to poor wound healing and falls.

Diabetic neuropathy develops gradually and silently. In its early stage it causes no pronounced symptoms, even though changes in the nerve fibres are already present. Yet it is only in this early stage that we can influence the disease. Early detection of diabetic neuropathy is therefore important and, at least for now, the only realistic way to slow the progression of the disease.

The nerve function assessment programme for people with diabetes includes a consultation and symptom assessment, a neurological examination and measurements of nerve fibre function (targeted EMG, Sudoscan small fibre measurement and a basic assessment of autonomic nerve fibres using respiratory sinus arrhythmia). The examination takes 45 – 60 minutes. It concludes with a review of the results and individual advice on monitoring, measures to prevent neuropathy and, if necessary, treatment. The examination is performed by a neurologist and a nurse.

Preparing for the examination
Please bring a list of the medicines you take regularly. Recent laboratory results are welcome (glucose, blood lipids, complete blood count, kidney function tests) if you have had them done recently. On the day of the examination, do not apply cream or other ointments to your legs; apart from this, no special preparation is needed.

Opinions of satisfied customers

Our patients' opinions testify to the trust, professionalism, and personal approach that we implement in our work every day.
MD Medicina has friendly and, above all, professional staff. The anesthesiologists make sure you feel really safe. The surgeon gives you all the information and does his job professionally, taking care of you until you leave and of course afterwards. The nurses, physiotherapist and others make sure you don't miss anything, even if you really can't do anything at that time. Professionalism, friendliness, homeliness. This is probably all that we as patients want and deserve when we need surgery. And that's how I felt too, because everything, from the preparation for the procedure, the surgery and the postoperative care, was carried out superbly. Thank you to the entire team and all the best!

Thank you to all of you who use the latest medical devices, methods and forms of work in your medical work. At the same time, you are training a new generation of doctors because you are personally convinced that a collaborative approach with the patient is not only beneficial for you, but also for us. This makes us feel "important".

When you enter the MD medicine building, you feel more comfortable than not, because you don't immediately have that familiar and unpleasant feeling and smell of a hospital. You are greeted by a friendly nurse who greets you kindly and explains everything you are interested in. Everything has a relaxing effect, so that that last feeling of anxiety before a doctor's examination or surgery really goes away. The doctor you visit is a top expert who devotes himself entirely to you, really listens to you, has time for you and, in the end, gives you professional advice. I always leave the premises of MD medicine calm and with a clear picture that there are people here who will always take care of you. Therefore, a sincere thank you to all of you.

I have had a personal doctor at MD medicine since 2017. From the very first visit, I entered the above-standard world of the health concession: a polite reception at the clearly arranged main entrance, a bright waiting room without crowds, an examination time at the agreed time in a modern and pleasantly equipped clinic, a friendly nurse who knows me by name, a relaxed and highly professional doctor who has time both to listen and to treat me. In the same building, I can also have a laboratory and many other health services performed. I can arrange orders, referrals, prescriptions, advice via email or by phone, which someone always answers... The high-quality system of MD medicine works not only for the benefit of the patient's health, but also dignity.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have questions? Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions related to our services and procedures. If you cannot find the answer, please contact us - we are happy to help you.

A visit is recommended for symptoms such as frequent headaches, dizziness, loss of sensation, weakness in the limbs, visual disturbances, problems with balance or memory. A neurologist can also help with suspected diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease or epilepsy.

The doctor will first discuss your problems and medical history. This will be followed by a clinical neurological examination, and if necessary, additional tests such as EMG, MRI or EEG will be ordered. Based on the findings, a plan for further treatment or management will be developed.

No, a referral is not required, as our clinic operates on a self-pay basis. This allows for quick access to the examination without long waiting lines. You can book an appointment for an examination at any time.

A neurologist deals with disorders of the nervous system, including headaches, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, dementia, neuropathies, and other neurological conditions. They also treat the consequences of stroke and sleep disorders related to brain function.

Depending on your symptoms, your neurologist may recommend tests such as electromyography (EMG), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electroencephalography (EEG), laboratory tests, or ultrasound of the neck veins. These tests allow for a more accurate diagnosis and more targeted treatment.
