The vast majority of European Union countries have established national quality and safety assurance programs. Slovenia does not have such a program, which is why it is all the more important that a healthcare organization voluntarily decides to participate in one of the external review programs.
Accreditation is considered a key method for improving the quality of care in a healthcare organization worldwide. It is a public recognition of a healthcare organization by an accreditation body that it meets pre-established standards. The accreditation body verifies the achievement of these standards through reviews conducted by external experts.
MD Medicina has been accredited by Accreditation Canada since 2017. It is an independent, non-profit organization that has been accrediting healthcare organizations in Canada and around the world for over 55 years. It is considered one of the three most established and recognized accreditation institutions in the healthcare field in the world. The assessment is carried out by various foreign experts, from a pool of 500 assessors, who ensure the highest level of objectivity and professionalism of the assessment. The vast majority of assessors come from Canada.
Accreditation Canada awards certificates at three levels, depending on which standards an individual healthcare institution meets. A healthcare organization in Slovenia typically has to prepare for a year to achieve the basic, gold level. MD Medicina, however, achieved the highest possible, diamond level in the assessment.
