It is a harmless imaging test for the patient with a wide range of uses, from emergency cases with abdominal pain to preventive examinations. The test provides information about the condition of the abdominal organs, urinary tract, reproductive organs, large vessels, and abdominal wall. It is important that the patient follows the instructions of the examiner during the test.
It can be performed as part of a full abdominal examination or as a targeted follow-up examination - depending on the clinical data at the time of referral. It is important that the subject has a sufficiently full bladder to examine the bladder wall.
Not all joints are equally suitable for such examinations, as different structures in different joints are more or less accessible to ultrasound examination. Ultrasound of joints is usually a matter of the treating physician's discretion. We primarily examine the structures surrounding the joints, such as the joint capsule, muscles surrounding the joints and ligaments. Specialists expect the most from ultrasound of the shoulder, we have informative findings when examining the structures near the ankles and with the Achilles tendon, and in isolated cases with other joints. X-rays are always useful with these examinations - if available, the patient should bring them with them.
The spectrum of examinations is wide: from soft tissue injuries and examination of tender points to the identification of swellings, tumors and lymph nodes. Particularly suitable sites are the armpits, groin, abdominal or chest wall, and less often the fingers of the limbs. Changes can be subcutaneous or deeper, with the depth of the examination decreasing in accuracy. The significance of the findings is conditioned by the anatomical location of the finding, its structure and sometimes also requires further imaging or tissue examinations.
The neck region is accessible for ultrasound examination from the scalp to the collarbone and the transition to the chest. The examination determines the condition of the lymph nodes, thyroid, parathyroid and salivary glands, identifies painful and painless subcutaneous formations or swellings, and can monitor the condition of the lymph nodes in systemic diseases or as part of the treatment of tumors of the oral cavity, neck, breast and chest.
Ultrasound examination is a non-invasive and painless examination method for examining the testicles. It is the basic imaging examination in cases of suspected tumor, inflammation, or vascular disease.
